Industrial transition towards a green and digital European economy

On 16 November 2020, the European Economic and Social Committee is organising an online hearing in the framework of its exploratory opinion requested by the European Parliament on an Industrial transition towards a green and digital European economy: regulatory requirements and the role of social partners and civil society.

Europe is going through a green and digital transformation, and European institutions are committed to ensuring that people remain centre-stage and that the economy works for them. The social partners' and civil society organisations' contribution is necessary to make our society resilient and ready for future challenges in the economy, industry, social protection, and in the way we work, shop and travel.

The debate will focus on the following questions, which lie at the heart of a series of ongoing and future legislative and non-legislative files:

  • What are the prospects and challenges for European industry in its transition to become green and digital?
  • How can we make sure that the transition is fair and just?
  • How can past transitions help us to understand the present and shape the future?
