The CRPD's Committee concluding observations to the EU two years after: towards a comprehensive strategy at European level

The EESC Permanent Study Group on Disability Rights is organising a public hearing on the follow-up to the UNCRPD Committee's concluding observations to the EU two years after their publication.

The aim of the event is to offer EU Institutions, DPOs and other civil society organisations the opportunity to discuss the future of the EU Disability strategy after 2020.

In the first part we will focus on the next steps that the European Commission and the members of the EU Framework for the UNCRPD will take, while in the second part we will listen to DPOs good practices, taking examples also from other policy areas.

Following on from its work on the the circular economy, the functional economy and the collaborative economy and the successful joint conference on the New Economy Models and Social Innovation, on 30 June the EESC is organising a public hearing to gather practical examples of how the EU can create policies to foster a more sustainable economic, social and environmental system through these new models.

In the framework of the preparation of its own-initiative opinion, the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) organised a public hearing Wealth Inequality in Europe: the Profit-Labour Split, on Friday, 23 June 2017, at the EESC premises, starting from 10 a.m. The objective of the hearing was to gain contributions and insights on this topic from various stakeholders and expert, with a view to channelling these findings into the EESC opinion.

The EESC Permanent Study Group on Disability Rights is organising a public hearing on equal treatment in employment and occupation. The aim of the event is to analyse what has been achieved and  what is still to be done for the full implementation of the equal treatment in employment directive.

The EESC has been working on an information report the aim of which was to investigate how European Parliament election procedures are determined in each Member State, taking into account the needs of persons with disabilities and how this affects their right to vote.

In this context, a public hearing was organized to present the first conclusions of the report and to look into successful projects and practices.

Tax competition between EU Member States may be harmful when it results in permanent losses of government tax revenues, may also distort competition between companies in the EU's single market and can have negative impacts on other EU policy areas. The EESC is currently drawing up an own-initiative opinion that aims to formulate solutions that can help to mitigate the negative effects of tax competition and to contribute to building a fairer and more transparent European fiscal system. In order to gain further insights the EESC organised a public hearing on Wednesday, 24 May 2017, starting from 10 a.m.

The EESC is drawing up an opinion on the Commission's recent communication dedicated to waste to energy. This public hearing aimed at gathering stakeholders' views on this critical aspect of the waste management and the transition towards a circular economy.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is pleased to announce that a Public hearing on the Application of State aid rules for compensating the provision of services of general economic interest will be held on 10 May 2017 from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the headquarters of the EESC, 2 rue Van Maerlant - 1040 Brussels, Room VMA 3.

The main objective of the hearing is to brainstorm on the challenges and opportunities arising from the current State Aid rules for services of general economic interest.
