Europe Day

Together with the other EU institutions in Brussels, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) opened its doors on Saturday 5 May in celebration of Europe Day. The EESC presented its activities to the public, with a special focus on culture, since 2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

The EESC Open Day is a unique opportunity for citizens to discover the work of the only institution representing 'organised civil society', which includes employers, trade unions and groups such as professional and community associations, youth organisations, women's groups, consumers, environmentalists and many more.

Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to exchange views with the EESC members on the role of civil society in the European decision-making process and on specific themes like a stronger economy, the fight against planned obsolescence, cybersecurity, participatory democracy, multilingualism, etc. Furthermore, interactive games on the EU and the EESC, fun activities, live music and refreshments were provided.
