18th Edition of the European Consumer Day

Opening session by Karl-Heinz Lambertz, Georges Dassis, Petra De Groene

The 18th edition of the European Consumer Day, took place at the European Economic and Social Committee, where Georges Dassis had the opportunity to do the opening of the conference's first session on Better Regulation. Initially, the EESC President mentioned the fact that today under the difficult economic conditions many people see their purchasing power diminishing day by day, while social exclusion and vulnerability of consumers are likely to worsen, in the forthcoming years.

Moreover, Georges Dassis highlighted the proposals that the EESC has made to deal with this situation such as an Opinion that was adopted, which calls for immediate measures to counter the consumers' vulnerability in the internal market and to fight against the gradual erosion of citizens' income.

Finally, he also spoke about the necessity to ensure a more sustainable and responsible way of consumption, to allow all citizens access to renewable energy and to create a friendlier for the environment way of transportation, if we are willing to implement the goals of COP21.
