Bringing the Future of Europe closer to its citizens will be key in the next few months. July has kicked off with Germany taking up the presidency of the Council of the EU on 1 July. Overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring economic and social recovery, as well as building a stronger and more innovative Europe, will be among Germany’s priorities.

There is a great deal of work ahead of us to construct a new social and sustainable Europe for all its people in this historic six-month period. Difficult decisions for now and the years to come will have to be taken but it is more important than ever that the European Union be transformed into a social, sustainable, democratic and citizen-led project ...
