On 12-15 September 2022, Ms Lidija Pavić-Rogošić, Mr Josep Puxeu Rocamora and Ms Piroska Kállay, NAT Section members active in promoting a sustainable rural development (respectively rapporteur and co-rapporteur of opinions relating to the sustainable rural/urban development and the long-term vision for rural areas), participated in the bi-annual gathering of the 5th European Rural Parliament.

This event gathered around 350 participants from 39 European countries, including rural people, representatives of civil society organisations, researchers, entrepreneurs, local/national governments and European Union institutions.

The EESC members took an active role in the event:

  • By animating a workshop on the needs of Rural communities in relation to sustainable rural-urban development on Wednesday 14 Sept. They discussed actions and policy solutions that should be put in place to ensure that the needs of rural communities are met and  agreed upon several recommendations with the participants of the workshop.
  • By taking part in the "Panel discussion on the rural pact", on Thursday 15 September, where Lidija Pavić-Rogošić presented the EESC's commitments towards the Rural Pact and fostered the Rural Pact potential.

This gathering of the ERP resulted in the "Rural People’s Declaration of Kielce 15th September 2022" and in a set of recommendations (manifesto and action plan) that will soon be published.
