  • In Europe, an estimated 7 women die every day as a result of gender-based violence. A further 45% of women in the EU say they have suffered gender-based violence at some point in their lives, while between 40% and 45% say they have suffered sexual harassment at work. The cost of gender-based violence over the world is estimated at 226 billion euros per year.

These numbers are far too high and this reality is unbearable.

  • During his opening speech at the seminar on Working life - Carer's life: Tackling the gender pay gap, which took place at the European Economic and Social Committee on 21 November, Georges Dassis stated that "the EESC has called on policy-makers to reduce gender inequalities by bridging the pay gap between men and women (an average of 16.4%), given that equal pay benefits not only women but also society as a whole".
