Solidarity between generations: a focus on ageing workers

The Labour Market Observatory of the EESC has organised a conference entitled "Solidarity between generations: a focus on ageing workers " on the 30 April 2019, at the EESC.

10 years after the first European Day of Solidarity between Generations (29 April 2009), we looked into the concept of solidarity and cooperation between generations, for a fairer and sustainable labour market. We put the focus on the situation of ageing workers and the preconditions for them to stay active in the new world of work. That was particularly timely, as discussions contributed to the drafting of an ongoing SOC/624 opinion on "Changing world of work and ageing workers".

We have been honoured to have excellent speakers from many key organisation in this field: European Commission (DG EMPL and DG RTD), the European Youth Forum, AGE Platform Europe, EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality), European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Lifelong Learning Platform (LLL), the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA), EU-OSHA (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work), Eurofound (EU Agency for the improvement of living and working conditions), BusinessEurope and L'outil en main (France).

The event was chaired by the President of the LMO - Krzysztof Pater, and the Vice-Presidents of the LMO: Cinzia del Rio and Vladimíra Drbalová.

Many thanks to our speakers and participants for their contributions!
