On 29 September, EESC President Oliver Röpke visited Murcia where he attended, an informal ministerial meeting on general affairs, alongside the President of the Committee of the Regions, Vasco Cordeiro, and Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, to discuss the future of cohesion policy.

On 19 September, the EESC decided to involve representatives from the civil society of EU candidate countries in the advisory work of the Committee by appointing the "Enlargement Candidate Members (ECMs)". The EESC is now the first EU institution to take such an initiative and open its doors to the candidate countries, facilitating their progressive and concrete integration into the EU. The Members will participate in the preparation of the EESC opinions and Plenary meetings, that focus on enlargement.
As the President of the EESC, I warmly welcome the 2023 State of the Union Address of President Ursula von der Leyen. The speech passed on a strong message of a united Europe that needs to answer the call of history.
On 31 August, President Röpke met with Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament. During their exchange, the Presidents discussed the importance of the upcoming 2024 European Parliament elections, including the possible cooperation and support of the EESC in the campaign to increase voters' turnout.
On 8 November, the EESC will hold a conference on ''The social dimension in the National Recovery and Resilience Plans''.
The event represents an opportunity for policy-makers, EESC members, experts, national civil society organisations and social partners to discuss with the audience ways of ensuring that the social dimension occupies a central position in National Recovery and Resilience Plans. Participants will look at the actual implementation of NRRPs, examine whether the investment and reforms manage to address social challenges, and highlight the role of the social partners and civil society organisations in implementing these reforms.
On Thursday 20 July 2023, EESC President Oliver Röpke was honoured to invite the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, to the premises of the EESC in order to discuss the state of human rights inside and outside the European Union with representatives from important civil society organisations (CSOs).
From Monday 17 to Wednesday 19 July, EESC President Oliver Röpke attended the UN High-Level Political Forum, in New York, to discuss sustainable development and the crucial role played by civil society in this process.
On 13 and 14 July, President Röpke participated in the first informal meeting of Ministers of Labour and Social Policies of the European Union (EPSCO) under the Spanish Presidency, focusing on "Social dialogue as a tool of democratic legitimacy for a social, green and feminist Europe".
On 17 July, EESC President Oliver Röpke together with the EESC delegation, Peter Schmidt and Antje Gerstein held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in context of the UN High Level Political Forum taking place in New York.
