Artificial Intelligence – For sustainable and quality work

The European Economic and Social Committee is organising a hearing as part of its work related to its own-initiative opinion on Artificial intelligence: anticipating its impact on jobs to ensure a fair transition.

The main objective of the hearing will be to debate the impact of artificial intelligence on different sectors of work and to discuss how to anticipate these changes and developments in order to reduce the negative impact on workers, businesses and consumers, and to ensure a fair transition.

The hearing was part of the EESC follow-up work related to its opinion on Improving the effectiveness of EU policies for SMEs, adopted in July 2017.

The main objective of the hearing was to debate the effectiveness and efficiency of EU policies for SMEs and gather valuable input and feedback from Lithuanian stakeholders on the matter with a view to finding ways in which they can be improved. Particular emphasis was put on the recommendations that have been outlined in the EESC opinion with the aim of implementing them at national level.

The hearing is part of the EESC follow-up work related to its opinion on Improving the effectiveness of EU policies for SMEs, adopted in July 2017.

The main objective of the hearing will be to debate the effectiveness and efficiency of the EU policies for SMEs and gather valuable input and feedback from Greek stakeholders on the matter with a view to finding ways in which they can be improved. Particular emphasis will be put on the recommendations that have been outlined in the EESC opinion with the aim of implementing them at national level. Issues such as access to finance, improving access to markets and internationalisation, promoting entrepreneurship, reducing the administrative burden, simplification, supporting SMEs competitiveness and innovation will be at the forefront. The stakeholders are also invited to express their views on the current definition of SMEs and on its potential need for revision.

Il Comitato economico e sociale europeo (CESE) sta organizzando un'audizione nel quadro dei lavori di follow-up relativi al parere Migliorare l'efficacia delle politiche dell'UE a favore delle PMI, adottato nel luglio 2017.

L'obiettivo principale dell'audizione sarà discutere l'efficienza e l'efficacia delle politiche dell'UE a favore delle PMI e raccogliere dalle parti interessate svedesi reazioni e contributi utili su questo tema, per trovare delle soluzioni che consentano di migliorare tali politiche. Particolare attenzione sarà rivolta alle raccomandazioni formulate nel parere del CESE, affinché esse vengano attuate a livello nazionale.

How do Social Economy Enterprises contribute to the integration of migrants?

The Social Economy Enterprise (SEE) model offers a framework for mobilising and enhancing newcomers' skills. SEEs facilitate the settlement and integration process for immigrants by providing them with employment or training and helping them with practical settlement support. Although they operate in different ways in different national contexts, Social Economy Enterprises have managed to define common principles of action – inclusive, subsidiary protection of the most disadvantaged people – taking a proactive approach to receiving migrants. In this way they have mobilised the relevant communities, activated networks and partnerships, and cooperated with central and local administrations to organise reception and integration processes.

2nd European Day of Social Economy Enterprises

The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to review the progress made in building an ecosystem for social enterprises and, on the other hand, to see what the next steps are for this enterprise model to be recognized and more widely disseminated. The European Day of Social Economy Enterprises is also an excellent opportunity to give the floor to the actors in the field by bringing together the EESC's institutional partners and a number of sector representatives as well as several stakeholders in order to have a comprehensive view of the situation, create synergies and discuss how to proceed from the creation of an ecosystem to a systemic change at European level.
