The EESC is pleased to learn that, even though belated, a European banking union will come to life. It is crucial that the Member State governments have the breadth of vision to create more Europe, handing over some powers and ensuring that they can be applied, in order to achieve effective European governance that is socially useful and economically efficient. New and stricter rules will offer security to people and markets.
The Europe 2020 Steering Committee organised on 4-5 December 2014 in Rome a high-level conference "Towards a more effective EUROPE 2020: Civil Society's proposals for boosting social inclusion and competitiveness in Europe".
"We must make serious work of achieving the objectives we have set ourselves with Europe 2020. Cohesion Policy needs to play an essential role in enabling the Union to achieve the EU 2020 goals. As we pursue the road to recovery, we must ensure that growth is not just smart and sustainable; it must be inclusive too."
