The role of Economic and Social Councils in sustainable development and the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is co-organising with the Italian National Council for Economics and Labour (CNEL) the annual meeting of the Presidents and Secretaries-General of the Economic and Social Councils of the EU and the EESC, which will take place on 13 and 14 June 2019 in Rome.

EESC President Luca Jahier, Secretary-General Gianluca Brunetti and the Presidents and Secretaries-General of the Economic and Social Councils of the EU will be gathering together to discuss the role of Economic and Social Councils in sustainable development and the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

In the presence of Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, M. Jahier will open the meeting alongside Tiziano Treu, President of CNEL, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Enrico Giovannini, economist and statistician, professor at the University of Rome.

Among other speakers will be Lorenzo Fioramonti, Vice-Minister of Education and Peter Schmidt, President of the EESC Sustainable Development Observatory.

Contributions from the national ESCs and discussions sessions will follow. Final recommendations on sustainable development and the Social Pillar will be presented to the new European Parliament.
