At its last Plenary, the EESC hosted a debate on the proliferation of anti-Semitism in Europe. Ms Raya Kalenova (Vice-president of the European Jewish Congress), Mr Michał Bilewicz (associate professor at the Centre for Research on Prejudice, Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw) and Mr Joël Kotek (Professor at the Free University of Brussels and the Paris Institute of Political Studies) were invited to take the floor as guest speakers. At the last May plenary session, the European Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager took part in a debate with the members of the EESC on the topic ‘Competition for a sustainable society’. On the 15th of May the EESC Diversity Europe Group held a debate on Social Economy Today. The guest speaker joining the debate was Mr Patrick Klein, Administrator at the European Commission, who leads the social economy team.

Young Europeans think that belonging to the EU benefits them directly and are keen to learn other languages, explore other cultures, and have friends of other EU nationalities. These are just the first results of a study on "Youngsters and the EU - Perceptions, Knowledge and Expectations", which the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and its Diversity Europe Group presented at a major event in Brussels on 15 May 2019.
The executive summary ‘Youngsters and the EU – Perceptions, Knowledge and Expectations’ has been published today.
