La Ronde - Short film from the dance performance by Boris Charmatz

To mark the 2021 European Year of Rail, the EESC is organising a screening of a short film by the Europalia Arts Festival.

The short film will be an excerpt from the dance performance La Ronde by the famous French choreographer Boris Charmatz. Charmatz performed live for six hours in the hall of Brussels North train station on 15 October, in a show that was part of the Europalia Trains and Tracks programme for 2021. A six-hour series of events with dancing, singing and talking duets, visualising and symbolising a collective moment in a public space.

This cultural activity is being held in collaboration with the Section for Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society (TEN) of the EESC.

The short film will be screened on Monday 15 November 2021, during the event on the European Year of Rail.

EESC on track with promoting rail

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) recognises rail as an attractive and sustainable way of moving people and goods across Europe. It regularly devotes opinions and events to this mode of transport, covering all aspects, from passenger transport to freight.

The EESC has been deeply involved with the European Year of Rail project from the outset, and backs its objective of promoting rail traffic in the EU. To this end, in its opinion on the European Year of Rail 2021, the Committee strongly supports the initiative, highlighting in particular the damage that the COVID-19 pandemic has done to the railway sector.

To alleviate this situation, the EESC has called for policies to increase the share of rail in passenger and freight mobility, including better communication on rail sustainability.
