    • The National Strategy on Sustainable Development is directly inspired by the SDGs and their targets. It sets non-numerical objectives for Italy and highlights important tools for achieving them in areas that relate to Agenda 2030's five "Ps": people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.
    • It will refer to the annual National Reform Programme, which takes into account long-term objectives.
    Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals

SDG implementation is coordinated by a directorate attached to the Prime Minister's Office.

    Role of civil society

Involvement in implementation of Sustainable Development Goals
    • Semi-open consultations with 200 NGOs during the initial gap analysis for the NSDS. CSOs could also provide written comments on the draft strategy. Commitment to "promoting the active participation of civil society" in decision-making.
    • Between 2016 and 2017, CSOs were consulted during policy design and preparation, and during the adoption process.
    Civil society platform for 2030
    • The (ASviS) was established in 2016 and brings together over 180 civil society institutions and networks. ASViS has 14 working groups that focus on specific SDGs and five cross-cutting WGs.
ASviS published a report on Italy and the SDGs in 2017, which found that:
      • Italy and the EU are not adequately on track to transition to sustainable development.
      • Italy has made some progress on certain SDGs but also experienced some very worrying delays in sectors such as energy and climate action.
    • ASviS organizes every year the Sustainable Development Festival in June, resulting  in a dossier of proposals to the Italian Government.

    SD council or equivalent

    Tasks
