Alignment and contribution of agrifood business to climate change adaptation and mitigation strategy and green circular economy

In the path towards more sustainable agrifood systems, companies can play a central role, adopting production and distribution models that are more attentive to environmental resources and social equity and promoting dietary patterns in line with sustainable diets. The issue of how to assess business practices becomes crucial for the future of the food sector. The seminar will investigate the models and systems to measure the impact of agrifood production on the environment and on nutrition, taking into consideration the fact that inadequate measurement systems can endanger traditional Mediterranean production and value chains.

Transitioning Agriculture systems for sustainability and climate resilience

Just Transition as a mechanism for green jobs  creation, reindustrialization  and energy decarbonization

The Spanish Just Transition Strategy aims at ensuring the job creation and other socio-economic opportunities in those economic sectors that are particularly relevant to the ecological transition process the country is embarked on. The current process is focussed on facing phase-out coal-fired power plants and coal mining activities. Based on the Spanish experience, an international panel will discuss about how to move forward on key areas for just transition such as social dialogue between business, trade unions and local communities, innovative energy policies to maximize the creation of local green jobs, measures to support redundant workers to find new job opportunities and how to mainstream gender equity throughout the process.
