The Civil Society Organisations' Group organised a photography exhibition in collaboration with the City of Culture of Galicia in the framework of its conference on EU food sovereignty: the role of agriculture, fisheries and consumers. The subject of the exhibition supported and complemented the Group's and the EESC's work on resilient and sustainable European food systems. The Group invited the Galician artist, Adrián Baúlde, to present parts of the series Mariscadoras.

Débat du CESE sur le thème «rEUnaissance – Une vision culturelle pour l’Europe»
Le Comité économique et social européen (CESE) a accueilli un débat sur le thème «rEUnaissance – Une vision culturelle pour l’Europe», auquel ont participé Andre Wilkens, directeur de la Fondation européenne de la culture, Pier Luigi Sacco, conseiller spécial de Tibor Navracsics, commissaire chargé de l’éducation, de la culture, de la jeunesse et du sport, Airan Berg, directeur artistique du Festival des régions, et Elke Kaschl Mohni, directrice du Goethe-Institut à Bruxelles.

Participating in the workshop on Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development at the Closing Conference of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 #EuropeForCulture, organised under the outgoing Austrian presidency in December in Vienna, Tom Jones emphasised that the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) had fully supported the designation of the thematic year and the initiatives around it.  He also recalled that public investment must be "rural-proofed", to maximise support to rural creative sectors and local groups working to enhance the infrastructure of our rural heritage.

The "LEONARDO: rEUnaissance today" project will be launched on 16 and 17 November in Rome. The project is a concrete expression of the slogan of the Presidency of Luca Jahier: "rEUnaissance" which is closely linked to one of the Presidency priorities: Culture. In a challenging time in European politics, and before the crucial European elections of May 2019, the EESC President looks to the Renaissance era for an inspiration for a positive narrative for the European Union of today.

EESC President Luca Jahier participated in the 129th plenary session of the Committee of the Regions. In the debate about "Regions and cities - Key drivers for reinforcing the European identity through culture" the participants highlighted that cities and regions reflect Europe's cultural diversity and are best placed to turn Europe's cultural heritage into a strategic asset.

Les 20 et 21 juin derniers, le groupe III «Activités diverses» a organisé une conférence sur le thème «Un espoir pour l’Europe! Culture, villes et nouveaux récits», en partenariat avec le Palais des Beaux-Arts (BOZAR) et la commission de la culture et de l’éducation du Parlement européen. La conférence a réuni plus de 200 participants et a mis en lumière l’énorme potentiel de la culture en tant que facteur de rassemblement et de mobilisation en Europe.
