The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

Le rôle de la société civile dans les négociations et la mise en œuvre d'un accord de libre-échange (ALE) UE-Japon
Tout récemment (du 27 au 31 janvier), une délégation de membres du comité de suivi UE-Japon du CESE s’est rendue en visite au Japon pour débattre de la mise en œuvre de l’accord de partenariat économique (APE) – en vigueur depuis le mois de février 2019 – et renforcer la coopération avec la partie japonaise. La visite comportait une table ronde sur l’économie circulaire et un premier dialogue conjoint UE-Japon avec la société civile dans le cadre de l’APE. Des questions relatives au commerce et au développement durable étaient inscrites à l’ordre du jour.
Employers believe that the business community has a crucial role to play in spreading a positive message about trade and in explaining what an ambitious trade policy can achieve. It is businesses that can tell the story of the practical benefits stemming from trade agreements.
