From the very beginning, the European Economic and Social Committee has been strongly committed to contributing from organised civil society's perspective to the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE).
Throughout the inter-institutional discussions on the conference, I was advocating for a bottom-up approach that would allow us to gather ideas from citizens and civil society organisations across the whole of the EU. If it is to be a success, the Conference will need to be results-oriented and bring tangible improvements for people and businesses. That is why accountability and transparency are so important.
I believe we should develop an online dashboard allowing citizens to follow what happens with their proposals, to see what is turning into reality and to know the timeframe for it. If the EU institutions do not deem it necessary to follow up on certain ideas, they owe people a clear and transparent explanation of why not.
