Monitoring of the implementation of SDGs

On the second anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda) and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the European Economic and Social Committee has the pleasure to invite you to a public debate that will explore how the monitoring of implementation of the SDGs should take shape in the EU.

The 2030 Agenda and the SDGs were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September, 2015. The EU has yet to propose an implementation strategy outlining the timelines, objectives and concrete measures to implement the 2030 Agenda across all relevant EU internal and external policies. There is also a need to propose a framework for a comprehensive analysis of the SDG implementation across the EU Member States. Two years since the adoption of the Agenda, the Sustainable Development Observatory of the EESC will hold space for reflection on latest developments thus far with a special emphasis on the monitoring of SDG implementation.

Sustainable Development Networks Solutions (SDNS) and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) will present a proposal for an analysis based on a set of indicators. This will be followed by reactions from a series of stakeholders including the Estonian Presidency, ITUC, COPA-Cogeca and others, with an open debate with participants on how the monitoring and implementation of the SDGs is unfolding and taking shape.
