Alates esimesest Lomé konventsioonist (1975) kuni Cotonou lepinguni (2000-2021) on ELi-AKV partnerlused reguleerinud ELi suhteid 79Aafrika, Kariibi mere ja Vaikse ookeani piirkonna (AKV) riigiga, mis moodustasid hiljuti  Aafrika, Kariibi mere ja Vaikse ookeani piirkonna riikide organisatsiooni (OACPS).

Selle perioodi jooksul võitles komitee koos AKV kodanikuühiskonnaga valitsusväliste osalejate olulise rolli tunnustamise eest arenguprotsessis kuni selle saavutamiseni Cotonou lepingus, millega anti komiteele volitused korraldada tegevusi ja konsultatsioone AKV riikide ja ELi majanduslike ja sotsiaalsete huvirühmadega, et koguda organiseeritud kodanikuühiskonna seisukohti ja anda neile hääl.Eesmärk on olnud edendada vahetusi ja anda soovitusi AKV-ELi suhteid puudutavates küsimustes ja poliitikavaldkondades, mis on hiljem ametlikult saadetud ELi ja AKV riikide juhtidele.

Praktikas juhib komitee tegevust seoses ELi ja OPCPSi suhetega peamiselt kaasav AKV-ELi järelevalvekomitee, mis koosneb komitee liikmetest ja AKV riikide majanduslikke ja sotsiaalseid huvirühmi esindavatest delegaatidest.

AKV ja ELi järelevalvekomitee hoiab korrapäraselt sidet kodanikuühiskonna esindajatega AKV riikides eri tasanditel, tehes seda järgmistel viisidel:

  • AKV ja ELi järelevalvekomitee korrapärased koosolekud;
  • AKV riikides toimuvad piirkondlikud seminarid, mis pakuvad foorumit ühist huvi pakkuvate teemade arutamiseks kodanikuühiskonna esindajatega ja toimuvad iga kord eri piirkonnas;
  • iga kolme aasta tagant AKV riikide ja ELi majanduslike ja sotsiaalsete huvirühmade Brüsselis toimuvad üldkoosolekud.

Samuti hoiab Euroopa Majandus- ja Sotsiaalkomitee korrapäraselt sidet Aafrika Liidu majanduslike ja sotsiaalsete huvirühmade esindajatega, tehes seda ELi ja Aafrika Liidu ühise strateegia raames. Komitee korraldab iga-aastaseid kohtumisi ELi-Aafrika majanduslike ja sotsiaalsete sidusrühmade võrgustikuga.

Euroopa Majandus- ja Sotsiaalkomitee on paljude aastate jooksul hoidnud alal korrapäraseid kontakte AKV-ELi parlamentaarse ühisassambleega, esitledes assamblee istungitel aruannet oma tegevusest.

Samamoodi on Euroopa Majandus- ja Sotsiaalkomitee tihedas kontaktis rahvusvaheliste tööandjate, töötajate, põllumajandustootjate, ühistute ja tarbijate organisatsioonidega. Kõnealused organisatsioonid nimetavad AKV riikide esindajad, kes kutsutakse Euroopa Majandus- ja Sotsiaalkomitee, sh AKV ja ELi järelevalvekomitee peetavatele koosolekutele.

  • On 22 November, participants in the 17th regional seminar of ACP-EU economic and social interest groups adopted a declaration highlighting the potential of the blue economy as a key factor for development in many eastern and southern African countries.
