  • On November 17 the EESC president, Georges Dassis, received Etienne Davignon, president of CSR Europe, the European business network for corporate social responsibility. During their meeting the two presidents discussed the UN program for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a special emphasis on concrete ways to promote a better cooperation between all relevant stakeholders.

  • Joost van Iersel, President of the ECO section, and Carmelo Cedrone, rapporteur on EMU, participate in a public conference organised by the Greens in the European Parliament

    On 17 November 2016, the ECO President, Joost van Iersel, was invited to speak in a public conference in the European Parliament, debating the Greens' proposals for a reform of the euro area set-up. Mr van Iersel was accompanied by Carmelo Cedrone, EESC rapporteur on EMU. A number of other high-level speakers also addressed the conference, including Wolfgang Munchau, José Leandro, Frank Vandenbroucke, Sebasten Godinot, Veronica Nilsson and Gerhard Huemer.

  • Georges Dassis, president of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), will participate in the debate How to govern Europe?, organised by the Brussels-based Italian media outlet EU News. The conference will take place at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome on 17 and 18 November.

  • The President of the EESC's ECO Section attends a lecture by Thomas Wieser, President of the Eurogroup Working Group, on the topic "Tough nuts to crack for the Eurozone – Would a stronger move towards integration be the solution?"

    On 15 November 2016, Thomas Wieser, President of the Eurogroup Working Group, gave a lecture on the future integration of the euro area at the Representation of the State of Hessen to the European Union. The EESC was represented by Joost van Iersel, President of the ECO Section

  • BRUSSELS - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have started a two-day high-level dialogue on the future of work bringing together more than 300 representatives of the social partners and civil society in Europe. They are expected to map out the main drivers of change which are transforming jobs and the economy in Europe.

  • EESC member, Petr Zahradník, is included in the research project FairTax via WIFO (AT) and Mendel University, Brno (CZ), within which he was a speaker on the event in Vienna (September 2016) and will be on the following event. The Bruegel event was a part of that.

  • EESC and CoR call for a plain territorial approach to policy making

    Exactly 20 years since the first Cork Declaration, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the Committee of the Regions (CoR) organised a joint conference on balanced territorial development under the title "Cork+20: leaving rural areas behind is no longer an option". At stake was the European Commission's new rural development strategy, set with the Cork 2.0 Declaration, which according to the two Committees is not concrete enough and fails to address some of the vital needs of rural areas.

The event was organised in cooperation with the International Confederation of Popular Banks, the European Association of Co-operative Banks, the UNICO Banking Group and the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. The European Commission also took part.

  • On 9 November the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) hosted a conference on Co-operative banks and innovation in SME financing. The event was organised in cooperation with the International Confederation of Popular Banks, the European Association of Co-operative Banks, the UNICO Banking Group and the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. The European Commission also took part. The conference looked at the growing role of technology players in SME financing and discussed their interaction with more traditional cooperative banks ...

  • EESC member Petr Zahradník attends the event as co-rapporteur for the new EESC opinion on the euro area economic policy recommendations for 2017

    On 9 November 2016, Petr Zahradník, EESC Member and rapporteur, followed the structured dialogue between the EP ECON Committee and Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission Vice-President for the euro and social dialogue, also in charge of financial stability, financial services and capital markets union. VP Dombrovskis' intervention was focused on several topics of the EU economic policy, the current state of the European economy and many regulatory issues related to financial markets, prudential supervision as well as the efficiency of the banking sector.
