Workers' Voice for more democratic participation - Nov 22

The upcoming meeting "Workers' voice for more democratic participation" will be organised in two panel discussions. The first one will focus on the democratic involvement and consultation of workers in the decision-making processes at their workplace as a key mechanism to complete the economic and social dimension of the EU. The keynote speech will be given by Rolf Schmachtenberg, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. The debate will be enriched by several experts and researchers, including Volker Telljohann, senior researcher at the Social and Economic Research Institute IRES of Emilia-Romagna, Niklas Selberg, legal expert at Lund University, and Sissel C. Trygstad, Research Director at the Norwegian social science research foundation FaFo.

The second panel will address decent work and the need to strengthen democracy at work through binding rules, starting with the issue of due diligence. Participants in this debate will include MEP and EP Vice-President Evelyn Regner, as well as Lieve Verboven, Director of the ILO office to the EU and the Benelux countries, and ETUC Confederal Secretary Isabelle Schömann.

The event will be opened by EESC Workers' Group President Oliver Röpke, who will give the welcome address, and Aurelio Fernández López, from the Spanish Permanent Representation to the EU.
