In the framework of the preparation of its own-initiative opinion, the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) organised a public hearing Wealth Inequality in Europe: the Profit-Labour Split, on Friday, 23 June 2017, at the EESC premises, starting from 10 a.m. The objective of the hearing was to gain contributions and insights on this topic from various stakeholders and expert, with a view to channelling these findings into the EESC opinion.

Extraordinary Group III Bureau Meeting

On 23 June 2017, the Bureau of the Various Interests' Group of the EESC held an extraordinary meeting at Ballymascanlon Hotel in Dundalk, Ireland.
The Bureau discussed the direct repercussions of "Brexit" on Ireland, its border, trade and communities.

The EESC Permanent Study Group on Disability Rights is organising a public hearing on equal treatment in employment and occupation. The aim of the event is to analyse what has been achieved and  what is still to be done for the full implementation of the equal treatment in employment directive.

Labour Market Observatory (LMO)

On 22 June 2017, the Labour Market Observatory (LMO) organised a partner event to the 2017 EU Green Week: a conference on the theme of 'Green jobs for a greener future'. This LMO event focused on the action needed to create quality jobs, adapt people's skills and help those affected by changes as part of the transition to a low-carbon, resource-efficient and greener economy. Speakers included civil society representatives, members of the European Parliament and experts from the European Commission, ILO, OECD and think tanks.

The REGNVM project consists of a series of underwater portraits photographed over a span of two summers in various bays around the Maltese Islands.

The photographs are also published in a limited edition book in which the photographs are woven together with the narrative thread of a story that tells of power, struggle, beauty and love around the inhabitants of the kingdom.

During the meeting, the EU DAG discussed with a representative of the European Commission the outcome and follow-up of the last CTSD meeting, held on March 24th, as well as the Commission's annual report on the EU-Korea FTA that was presented in June. Presentations of the recent developments in the Republic of Korea were also made by representatives of the correspondent country desk oin the European Commission and the EEAS. The EP shadow rapporteur on the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Korea, Dr Joachim Schuster, MEP (S&D Group), presented the European Parliament resolution adopted on 18 May 2017 to the EU DAG.

Scaling impact and connecting business with policymakers for low-carbon solutions

The 7th LCTPi meeting, organized in cooperation with the EESC, will seek to demonstrate the progress that has been made since Paris, prepare for COP23 and focus on the actions that are being taken in Europe.

During the meeting, the Commission representative provided information about the annual meetings of the Board on Trade and Sustainable Development (BTSD), as well as the debate on the participation of the advisory groups and their dialogue with the BTSD. Members also discussed the future of the advisory groups under the Trade and Sustainable Development Title of the European Union's agreements and the Renewal of the European advisory group's mandates (April 2018).

The EESC has been working on an information report the aim of which was to investigate how European Parliament election procedures are determined in each Member State, taking into account the needs of persons with disabilities and how this affects their right to vote.

In this context, a public hearing was organized to present the first conclusions of the report and to look into successful projects and practices.
