On Tuesday 10 May, the EESC president Georges Dassis participated in a conference entitled Basic income: one of the ways to increase European economic and social cohesion and escape from the current economic slump? The conference was organised by the trade union Union for Unity, in cooperation with GRASPE and Europe Solidaire, and also featured the Louvain University (UCL) professor and philosopher Philippe Van Parijs, who presented his idea on a universal basic income.

The inaugural meeting of the EU-Moldova Civil Society Platform (CSP) was held on 10 May 2016 at the European Economic and Social Committee, the European body representing the voice of EU's organised civil society. The participants in the first CSP meeting adopted a joint declaration assessing the state of play of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement's implementation and discussing Rule of law and good governance. The EESC president's interview in "Ici l'Europe" (France 24) has allowed to clarify the role and positions of the Committee on many burning issues.

The economic situation in Greece was discussed, as well as the migration crisis and EESC's recommendations, the TTIP and the rise of populism in Europe.

The Digital Contract Rights opinion (Rapporteur: Mr Pegado Liz, Various Interests Group) was adopted by the European Economic and Social Committee at its plenary session on 27 April 2016.

The opinion addresses the European Commission legislative proposals on the supply of digital content, and on online sales of goods, both envisaged as a package with common objectives, within the context of the Digital Single Market Strategy.
