Official visit to Slovakia of Geroges Dassis, President of the European Economic and Social Committee

Georges Dassis, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will be on his first official visit to Slovakia between 28th and 29th September (programme is attached).

 

The visit is held in the framework of the Slovak Presidency to the Council of the EU. It will include meetings with the Prime Minister and Minister of labour, social affairs and family, as well as  meeting at the National Council of the Slovak Republic and the Assembly of the Confederation of the trade unions.

 

The priority issues of his visit are employment, solidarity and the urgent social and economic challenges in Slovakia and in the EU as a whole; and how a European Pillar of Social Rights could contribute to addressing these. The EESC President will discuss the need to restore a spirit of solidarity and responsibility, and what Europe has to do to regain public support.

 

Georges Dassis will present the decisions of his discussions during a press meeting with journalists at 12:00 on 28 September 2016 at the SOREA REGIA hotel (Kráľovské údolie 6, 811 02  Bratislava)

 

Georges Dassis is a trade-union activist in Greece from the age of 15, and was President of the Workers' Group of the EESC (2008 – 2015). He last visited Bratislava during a conference on the impact of technological change on the social security system and labour law - on 16th June.
