European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform names its coordination group members

In March 2017, the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) launched a joint European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP). The platform’s 24-member coordination group has now been chosen and the list of participants published.

Selected through an open call for expressions of interest, the coordination group will contribute in a crucial way to the activities of the ECESP for the next 3 years. The group brings together circular economy stakeholders, with representatives principally from:

  • civil society
  • business
  • trade unions
  • think tanks
  • public bodies

The ECESP aims to accelerate the transition from a linear ‘take, make and waste’ economic model to a circular economy in EU countries. As part of this, it is tasked with strengthening stakeholder cooperation and identifying the social, economic and cultural barriers which currently hinder the development of a circular economy.

The ECESP will also have a website to serve as a virtual meeting place where all members of the circular economy community can interact. In this way, stakeholders can work together to deliver results – sharing good practice and expertise, as well as strategies and pledges for the circular economy. This website will go live in November.

The newly formed coordination group is to hold its first meeting in Brussels on 22 November. The next major conference on the circular economy is scheduled on 20-21 February 2018.
