Austrian contemporary art showcased at the EESC

Austria Contemporary displays a small yet representative selection of works from the Republic of Austria's collection of contemporary art, focusing on works created in recent times and offering insights into working methods and trends in contemporary art. The exhibition is one of the initiatives organised by the EESC in conjunction with the Austrian Presidency of the EU.

On Wednesday 11 July, the EESC hosted the opening of the exhibition. Luca Jahier, President of the EESC, Austrian EESC members and Juliane Bogner-Strauß, Federal Minister for Women, Families and Youth, welcomed a large number of guests to the Committee. Over 400 people attended, including many of the artists whose work was on display. Also on the programme for the evening was a musical performance by the multi-award-winning Duo Aliada.

Austria Contemporary will be on display until 14 September, in conjunction with the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as an EESC cultural event linked to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and supported by the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU.

All the pieces exhibited are from the Austrian Federal Government's Artothek, the institution that houses creative works purchased as a means of providing support to the arts.
