Youth Climate and Sustainability Round Table #1

Following the recommendations of the EESC own-initiative opinion Towards structured youth engagement on climate and sustainability in the EU decision-making process*, the EESC will host the first EU Youth Round Table bringing youth climate activists and representatives of youth organisations together with high-level EU decision-makers to discuss EU policies on climate and sustainability. The aim of the event is to make recommendations on the overconsumption of natural resources and to ensure a proper follow up to their implementation by youth organisations.

The first Youth Climate and Sustainability Round Table will take place on Tuesday 13 July, 10:00-11:00 CEST.

European Commission Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, will take part in the event, in a direct open dialogue, enabling youth representatives to provide their input.

The event will take place fully online, bringing together Executive Vice-President Timmermans and a group of around ten youth representatives. It will be chaired and moderated by the EESC's Vice-President for Communication, Cillian Lohan.

The event will also serve to explore the possibility of setting up a permanent structure for the Youth Climate and Sustainability Round Tables, which could be organised twice a year, ensuring rotation and inclusive representation of participants. The EESC would act as facilitator, hosting and contributing to the EU Youth Round Tables.

The live event will be webstreamed not only on this dedicated webpage but also on the EESC's social media channels (Facebook). Don't miss it!
