Programme

Three interwoven artistic threads will lead us through these Songs of Longing, showing us how our diverse cultural heritages nurture contemporary creation; linking us across centuries and continents to our pasts and hopes for the future, to our joint humanity.

Thread 1
Arias from Monteverdi's "Orpheo" (1607) and Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice" (1762) will be interpreted by young artists - a theme of longing just as striking in the 17th and 18th century as in the 21st - as can be heard in the sneak preview of the newly composed music theatre piece by Dick van der Harst, which will premiere at La Monnaie in June.

Thread 2
Members of Brussels' artistic and cultural communities
Members of cultural communities, both professional artists and amateurs living and working in Brussels, who are taking part in the artistic co-creation strand of Orfeo & Majnun, showcase the diversity of cultures living in Brussels and Europe, their creativity and cultural heritages.

Thread 3
Lived Utopias – "Economy for the Common Good Dance"

The essence of the model in a duo in movement.
