The EESC's Permanent Group on disability Rights is organising a hybrid public hearing on "The Web accessibility directive: looking forward" on 23 October 2023 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

The aim of the Web Accessibility Directive is to provide people with disabilities with better access to public websites and mobile apps.

In the hearing, stakeholders will look at the main challenges hindering a full application of the directive and discuss which would be the necessary next steps to take in this field to ensure full digital accessibility within the EU

The purpose of this hearing will be to contribute to the EESC opinion and to the debate on the rethinking of the internal market in light of the acceleration of the twin transitions and on crafting a European Industrial Strategy that strenghen EU industries.

The permanent group on Inclusion of the Roma is organising a public hearing on 19 October 2023 on ''Combatting antigypsyism: identifying possible measures''. Antigypsyism remains a key challenge for the Roma, hindering their prospects. The new EU Roma strategic framework foresees cutting the proportion of Roma experiencing discrimination by at least half by 2030.  The hearing will look at the current situation with regard to antigypsyism, discussing measures foreseen in the national strategic frameworks aimed to tackle antigypsyism and possible responses to this problem.

This event, organised by the EESC's permanent group on immigration and integration, aims to examine the success and lessons learned of integration and inclusion as an EU policy as well as a reality facing many cities and regions in the EU.

Distinguished panels from EU policy, social partners, cities and think tanks will help answer this question.

EESC partnering up with Eurotowns

Small and medium-sized urban areas play a significant role in sustainable development and territorial cohesion in Europe and represent an essential part of the EU Urban Agenda. The following side event by the EESC together with Eurotowns will focus on the priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU on how to foster the potential of small and medium-sized cities in order to promote territorial cohesion in all places. Moreover, it will also explore the role of civil society partners on further promoting the values of cohesion in these urban areas.

In order to attract talents and a skilled workforce, close cooperation must be developed between regional authorities, social partner organisations, employment services, and education and training providers. Social dialogue needs to be used effectively in order to attract companies to disadvantaged regions and ensure good quality jobs, good wages, job security via standard employment and access to social protection, and lifelong learning opportunities.
