Forum on Mobility in Europe 2030 – serving sustainability and military purposes

Background and rationale

The Forum "Mobility in Europe 2030 – serving sustainability and military purposes" is conceived as a high-level platform bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, financial institutions, municipalities, NGOs, and international experts to accelerate the transition towards climate-neutral, resilient, and competitive mobility systems and military mobility capabilities in light of evolving geopolitical realities.

The European Union has made significant progress in meeting initial decarbonisation targets in transport. However, the next phase of transformation presents more complex challenges: scaling up electromobility, integrating alternative fuels, decarbonising freight and logistics, transforming urban mobility, tackling emissions in ports and airports as well as military mobility. These challenges require coordinated regional approaches, cross-sector collaboration, and alignment between policy, finance and technology.

Hosted in Riga on 17 September 2026, the Forum will serve as a strategic dialogue space to assess progress, share best practices, and define practical pathways for sustainable and military mobility capabilities across Europe.

Objectives

The Forum aims to: assess progress towards EU and national sustainable mobility and decarbonisation targets; foster regional alignment and cooperation among EU countries in military mobility; explore scalable solutions for electromobility, alternative fuels, and green energy integration; address decarbonisation challenges in freight transport, logistics, ports and airports; highlight the role of cities and public transport in building greener urban mobility systems; facilitate dialogue between policymakers, industry, finance and civil society; and generate actionable insights and recommendations for the next phase of sustainable and military mobility.

Target audience

The Forum is designed for: EU-level policymakers and national government representatives; ministries responsible for transport, climate, energy and economy; municipal and city authorities; transport, logistics, automotive and energy companies; financial institutions and insurers; technology and infrastructure providers; NGOs, think tanks, and research organisations; and industry associations and professional networks.

Format and methodology

The Forum will be a one-day, in-person conference, held in English, featuring: high-level keynote addresses; moderated panel discussions with senior decision-makers; and structured networking opportunities.

The agenda is designed to follow the mobility value chain – from policy and energy systems to vehicles, logistics, cities and international transport hubs.
