Background

The review of the promotion policy aims to support efforts to position the EU food system as a global reference for sustainability by promoting, in addition to quality schemes such as organic farming and geographical indications, future schemes seeking to raise consumer awareness about EU sustainable food labelling, animal welfare, healthy dietary patterns (e.g. by expanding on its current promotion of fruit and vegetable consumption in the context of balanced diets as well as other food products and categories that are currently under-consumed in the EU with a negative impact on public health).
