During the meeting, the EU Domestic Advisory Group (EU DAG) and civil society representatives from Colombia and Peru will discuss implementation of the Trade and Sustainable Development Title of the Trade Agreement, with a particular focus on respect for international labour and environmental standards. They will also discuss economic, social, environmental and human rights impacts resulting from the implementation of the Agreement. The participants will reflect moreover on how the civil society from the EU, Colombia and Peru can cooperate to promote sustainable development in the context of trade relations and prepare for the next joint meeting. The participants may adopt a joint declaration summarising outcomes of their discussion and present it to the Parties during the open session planned for 8 December.

The Employers' Group has been invited by the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts to co-organize an Extraordinary Seminar regarding the issue of Transposition of EU Legislation in Member States, also known as Goldplating. The Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts considers this to be a serious issue in this young Member State which requires serious study and consideration. The Employers' Group has already carried out a targeted study on this subject and has been fully supportive of the work being done in the INT Section.

Members of the Group will participate actively in the seminar and share national experiences in other Member State on the issue of over implementation and how best to deal with this issue.

The EU-Turkey Joint Consultative Committee (JCC)  brings together representatives of organised civil society from the EU and Turkey. It complements the other bodies set up within the framework of the Association Agreement between the EU and Turkey and enables civil society organisations from both sides to monitor the accession negotiations and initiate debates on issues of common interest. Its members come from various economic and social interest groups. This is the 35th meeting and it took place in Ankara.

On Thursday 1 December, members of Group III representing the liberal professions met in a WORKSHOP on Liberal Professions in Europe, chaired by Arno Metzler, Vice-President of Group III. The event also brought together representatives of organisations representing the liberal professions in several Member States (Austria, Germany, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Spain) and a number of other European professional organisations.

Representatives of the European and Georgian Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs), set up under the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia, held their second joint meeting in Brussels on 30 November 2016. The participants expressed their commitment to fulfil the mandate foreseen in the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of the Association Agreement, namely to monitor the implementation of the Chapter and to provide advice to the Parties to the Agreement.

COMMUNICATING MIGRATION

10th EESC Civil Society Media Seminar, 24-25 November, Vienna, Diplomatic Academy

The EESC Communications Department is organising its 10th Civil Society Media seminar on "Communicating Migration", focusing on the communication aspects in the context of migration, refugees and integration.

The aim of the event is to discuss and debate how communication tools and the media have been instrumental in telling the story of migration into and across Europe.  The event will bring together communications and media representatives of the EESC's host organisations, EESC members, National Economic and Social Committees and similar bodies, other EU institutions, journalists and journalist organisations.

The EESC and the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum are organising their 3rd joint seminar, on 23 November 2016, in Versailles. The objective of the seminar is to discuss topics of common interest for European and Russian civil society. On the agenda this year will be questions such as the current situation in which civil society in Russia and in the EU are operating, and questions relating to migration, specifically focusing on good practices and experiences in integrating newcomers into host societies.
