Towards transformational local development policies

On 28 November 2022 the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and ECOLISE will hold an event in the context of the annual Communities for Future Week, a week-long series of events at EU, national and regional levels that will explore how best to support ongoing work led by communities on climate change and sustainability in Europe.

The EESC will host a public hearing in the context of its own-initiative opinion: Empowering youth to achieve sustainable development through education. The event aims to explore innovative ideas to foster opportunities and overcome challenges for the implementation of a transformative education for sustainable development.

As in previous years, the European Economic and Social Committee, as the body representing organised civil society in the EU, will be following the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, from Tuesday, 5 July, to Monday, 18 July 2022. The HLPF is the United Nations central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Reinvigorating progress on SDG 15 in the EU

The objective of this online event - held in the context of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) - is to take stock of EU progress towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15, in order to come up with a new set of proposals to reinvigorate the EU trajectory through strategic and cooperative approaches.

On 9 June in Tullamore, Ireland, the Civil Society Organisations' Group of the European Economic and Social Committee in partnership with Irish Rural Link, will organise a conference on the topic of the 'Just Transition'.

Public hearing

In response to increasing global demand for enhancing energy efficiency, reducing resource consumption and restoring our relationship with nature, the European Union is set to revamp its products policy by making sustainable products the norm. On 29 April 2022, the Section for Agriculture, Rural development and the Environment of the EESC is organising a public hearing to feed into the elaboration of the EESC opinion on the Sustainable products initiative, including Eco-design Directive.

The NAT section of the EESC will hold a public hearing on 26 April 2022 to engage stakeholders and civil society actors and discuss the engagement of young people towards achieving sustainable development. The conclusions of the hearing will feed into the preparation of the EESC information report on this topic.

The EU as a driver of shared prosperity – civil society for an economy that works for people & the planet

While Europe and its societies are still in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic and with the Conference on the Future of Europe in its closing stages, the EESC will be holding its annual Civil Society Days in March 2022.
