At its December plenary, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) discussed the issues affecting young people in the labour market in the context of the 2022 European Year of Youth and the 2023 European Year of Skills. The Committee advocates for a long-term strategy for youth engagement and recommends that the concept of European Years go beyond mere promotional activities and contribute towards clear plans. The needs of refugees and our Ukrainian neighbours must also be a priority of the European Year of Skills.

Gymnasieelever fra hele Europa overrakte otte konkrete forslag til Kommissionens næstformand med ansvar for værdier og gennemsigtighed, Věra Jourová, i forbindelse med det virtuelle ungdomsarrangement Dit Europa, din mening! Et obligatorisk pensum om europæisk politik for at øge borgernes viden, inden de sætter deres kryds, var det forslag, der fik flest stemmer under 2019-udgaven af "Dit Europa, din mening" (YEYS), ungdomsarrangementet, der blev organiseret af Det Europæiske Økonomiske og Sociale Udvalg (EØSU) den 21.-22. marts 2019. Europa-Parlamentet vil få forelagt dette og tre andre udvalgte forslag, der fokuserer på, hvordan nye teknologier og sociale medier kan styrke deltagelsen i europaparlamentsvalget.
