It is essential to communicate the newly established Sustainable Development Goals, and to communicate them effectively because their adoption by 193 States of the world and their goal to reduce inequality and erase poverty marks an evolution in both responsibility and ambitions. It is the everyday people who will be the drivers of this change and they must be made aware that these goals concern them in the first place.

This year's topic was inspired by the current European Year for Development. Yesterday in his opening speech President Dassis referred to the importance of this topic for Europe and globally and also for the European Economic and Social Committee, who launched the very idea of a European Year for Development.

Over the past 2 years, the EIB has been cooperating closely with the EC and EEAS on the development finance aspects of the 2030 Agenda in preparation for the Addis and New York meetings. This has been a welcome opportunity to join forces, reminding our shareholders, the EU Member States, and indeed the global community, of the contribution that EIB – as the EU Bank - can make to this debate.

Il faut situer ce séminaire dans le cadre actuel. 2015 est une année charnière en termes de coopération au développement. Les décisions prises au niveau international constituent un nouveau cadre pour notre travail quotidien, que ce soit sur notre manière de fonctionner avec les nouveaux objectifs de développement durable de réfléchir, de manière plus globale, plus universelle et plus cohérente, ou de communiquer. Cette Année européenne pour le développement dont le slogan est « notre monde, notre avenir, notre dignité » tombe à pic.
