EU, USA a Kanada sdílejí hodnoty demokracie, lidských práv, hospodářských a politických svobod a společné cíle v oblasti zahraniční politiky a bezpečnosti. USA a Kanada patří k hlavním obchodním partnerům EU i partnerům, kteří formují mezinárodní právní řád. Transatlantické vztahy nyní vstupují do nového prostředí a čelí rostoucím problémům. Domníváme se, že zapojení občanské společnosti do těchto vztahů bude zárukou, že transatlantické vztahy budou schopny reagovat na očekávání veřejnosti a aktivně přispívat k formování oboustranně prospěšné spolupráce.

Dne 30. října 2016 byla uzavřena Komplexní hospodářská a obchodní dohoda mezi EU a Kanadou (CETA) a dohoda o strategickém partnerství. Budeme usilovat o trvalé zapojení občanské společnosti do provádění těchto dohod. Jednání o Transatlantickém obchodním a investičním partnerství (TTIP) mezi EU a USA jsou v současnosti pozastavena. Jednání o TTIP nicméně přispěla k upevnění vazeb mezi občanskými společnostmi EU a USA a k formování názorů občanské společnosti na budoucí podobu obchodního vztahu mezi EU a USA. Těchto výsledků bychom se neměli vzdát. Náš monitorovací výbor Transatlantické vztahy byl vytvořen v září 2014 za účelem monitorování transatlantických vazeb s občanskou společností a navázání pravidelného dialogu a konzultací o aspektech vztahů s USA a Kanadou.
