The upcoming French Presidency of the Council of the European Union asked the EESC to prepare an opinion on the role of innovative financial tools in the development of enterprises with a social impact.

The EESC adopted unanimously in September 2020 the opinion "SME strategy". Amongst its main conclusions were the plead to the Commission to draw up a "Next Generation SME Strategy". Unfortunately, in its 2021 Work Program, the European Commission chose to commit to an update of the Industrial, but not of the SME Strategy.
The CO2 emission standards for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles are key drivers for reducing CO2 emissions in the sector, as shown in the Communication on Stepping up Europe’s 2030 climate ambition. The general objectives of this proposal are to contribute to achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and to this end, in line with the European Climate Law, to contribute to reaching at least 55% net greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2030 compared to 1990.
