  • On 9 March the president of the European Economic and Social Committee met with Alena Bašistová, Chairwoman of the Committee for Social Affairs of the Slovak Parliament where they had the opportunity to discuss and explore areas for cooperation in the field of European social policy.

  • We need to change the narrative and disseminate the many good stories as an antidote to the fears and worries spread by right-wing populists. Efforts towards integration need to be accelerated - the city of Mechelen could be a role model of what successful integration can look like. Family reunification is key to proper integration, and so is access to work and basic services. Therefore it is indispensable for Member States to stick to the relocation programme they themselves agreed upon in September 2015. It is unacceptable that 9 Member States did not relocate any refugees. Europe needs solidarity in order to handle this challenge.

  • On Tuesday 7th March the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) hosted a public hearing of the European Parliament's Social Economy Intergroup (SEIG), on the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome: social economy’s contribution to economic, social and territorial cohesion in Europe. The president of the EESC, Georges Dassis gave his opening remarks alongside the SEIG's co-president and Member of the European Parliament, Jens Nilsson, while the Vice-president of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen participated in the first panel.

     

  • The debate on a long-term strategy for a more sustainable Europe was launched by the EESC with a public hearing on 1st March. Based on an assessment of long-term trends and challenges, such as the digitalisation of the economy, the shift to a low carbon economy and the transformation of labour markets, the hearing explored the transition to a new economic model that is economically more resilient, socially more fair and environmentally more responsible.

  • At the invitation of the University of Louvain's C.R.I.D.E.S (Centre de recherché interdisciplinaire Jean Renaud "Droit, Enterprise et Société "), Georges Dassis, president of the European Economic and Social Committee, took part in the conference on "Economic law in the EU: How can adequate convergence be ensured after Brexit?", which took place on 6 March 2017 and brought together professors from all over Europe.

  • LES ÉLÈVES DU LYCÉE REPRÉSENTERONT LES JEUNES BELGES POUR RELAYER LEUR AVIS SUR L’AVENIR DE L’EUROPE

    Le 10 mars, à 12h00, des élèves de l’Athénée Royal Thil Lorrain à Verviers, recevront la visite de M.  Yves Somville, membre du Comité économique et social européen, en vue de leur préparation à participer à la manifestation intitulée «Votre Europe, votre avis» (YEYS). «Votre Europe, votre avis» est une assemblée européenne de jeunes réunissant 33 établissements scolaires sélectionnés dans l’UE et les pays candidats qui offre un forum de discussion sur l’avenir de l’Europe. Elle se réunira au CESE à Bruxelles les 30 et 31 mars 2017.

     

     

  • TÖÖLÖN YHTEISKOULUN OPPILAAT PÄÄSEVÄT SUOMEN NUORTEN EDUSTAJINA ESITTÄMÄÄN MIELIPITEENSÄ EUROOPAN TULEVAISUUDESTA

    Euroopan talous- ja sosiaalikomitean jäsen Pirkko Raunemaa vierailee Töölön yhteiskoulun oppilaiden luona Helsingissä 10. maaliskuuta kello 13.00 antamassa ohjeita Sinun Eurooppasi, sinun mielipiteesi  tapahtumaa varten. "Sinun Eurooppasi, sinun mielipiteesi" on eurooppalainen nuorisokokous, jossa oppilaat 33:sta EU-maiden ja ehdokasmaiden koulusta keskustelevat Euroopan tulevaisuudesta. Tapahtuma järjestetään ETSK:ssa Brysselissä 30.–31. maaliskuuta 2017.

  • On 13 March, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is holding a high-level conference, in cooperation with the Italian prime minister's office and under the auspices of the Italian parliament, entitled Sixty years of European community — let's shape the future! The conference will be held in the Auletta dei gruppi parlamentari, at the Montecitorio complex, from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

  • ALUNOS DA ESCOLA SECUNDÁRIA DR. MANUEL GOMES DE ALMEIDA (ESPINHO) REPRESENTARÃO OS JOVENS PORTUGUESES NUM DEBATE SOBRE O FUTURO DA EUROPA

    No dia 16 de Março, às 15:00, os alunos da Escola Secundária Dr. Manuel Gomes de Almeida, de Espinho, receberão a visita de Mário Soares, membro do Comité Económico e Social Europeu (CESE) e de Gonçalo Lobo Xavier, Vice-Presidente para a Comunicação do CESE, tendo em vista a sua preparação para o evento «A tua Europa, a tua voz». Esta iniciativa reúne 33 escolas secundárias da UE e dos países candidatos para debater o futuro da Europa numa reunião plenária de jovens. Terá lugar no CESE, em Bruxelas, nos dias 30 e 31 de Março de 2017.
