EESC President Georges Dassis and Secretary-General Luis Planas in the Annual Meeting of the Presidents and Secretaries-General of the national ESCs of the EU and the EESC

On 6 and 7 October, the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Georges Dassis, and the Secretary-General, Luis Planas will attend the Annual Meeting of the Presidents and Secretaries-General of the national ESCs of the EU and the EESC.

This year's meeting will be dedicated to "The future of work and social rights in a changing Europe".

The launching of the European Social Pillar consultation by the European Commission, towards a deeper and fairer Economic and Monetary Union, gives the tone to this year's meeting and provides an excellent opportunity to share experiences on the socio-economic changes and to launch a discussion on how these changes may impact on the activity of the EESC and the ESCs, and also to develop strategies on how the pillar should be taken forward.

These initiatives at EU level are fundamental to reinforce the Union's founding principles, in this rather difficult time, building on the conviction that economic development should result in greater social progress and cohesion.
