    La stratégie Europe 2020 fixe une série de nouveaux objectifs dans les domaines de l'emploi, l'innovation, l'éducation, l'inclusion sociale, le climat et l'énergie. Pourtant, quand il s'agit de réaliser les objectifs définis dans cette stratégie, les situations de départ des hommes et des femmes sont très différentes. Le Comité économique et social européen présentera, le vendredi 22 mars 2013, son avis d'initiative sur "la dimension de genre dans la stratégie Europe 2020" et exposera son point de vue sur ce sujet particulièrement intéressant.     On 22 and 23 January, two days of workshops were held at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels as part of the EUROsociAL II programme. The event brought together specialists in online cooperation from the Economic and Social Councils of the Council for Economic and Social Development (CDES) of Brazil, the Economic and Social Council (CES) of Spain and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

    On the occasion of his official visit to Portugal this 11 January, Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, paid a special visit to the Association CAIS in presence of Carlos Pereira Martins, Group III and Portuguese EESC. The Association is active against poverty and social exclusion and is a winner of the 2012 EESC Civil Society Prize

    1 Jan 2013 31 Dec 2013 The European Year of Citizens 2013 will be dedicated to the rights that come with EU citizenship. Over this year, EU Institutions will encourage dialogue between all levels of government, civil society and business. In this context the EESC will take part in numerous activities and design its own, focusing on active and participatory citizenship. The European Year of Citizens will be launched early 2013 with a special 'Open Space' event at the EESC - watch this space to learn more!

What does Europe need at the time of the Irish Presidency, and what could Ireland bring to the table and cultivate for the EU? In times of significant economic challenges, Ireland will need to display effective management of the EU agenda. Holding the Presidency offers Ireland a valuable opportunity to seek ways of advancing legislation and policy that will positively improve the lives of all EU citizens."
