20-21 Mar 2012
The conference will look at the future challenges and opportunities for the EU farm policy from different angles, and predominantly from a civil society perspective. We will draw on the experience of fifty years of development of the most integrated of all EU policies – the common agricultural policy (CAP) and will look at its impact on EU farmers, consumers, rural regions, global food security and trade.
The 50th anniversary of the CAP is an excellent opportunity for the EESC to bring all stakeholders together and enable them to express their visions for the future of agriculture in the EU.

"Tax and financial havens: a threat to the EU's internal market"
Rue Van Maerlant 2, 1040 Brussels
"Tax and financial havens" are territories where lax regulations allow the operation of financial institutions and companies of all type.
The lack of fiscal controls, the existence of weak prudential supervision rules, the opacity of information for the identification of individuals and legal entities, or any other circumstance of a legal or administrative nature, may explain that businesses operating from these territories enjoy almost total impunity and have intolerable competitive advantages, and immunity against the actions of judicial and administrative authorities of third countries.
The Economic and Social Council of Bulgaria /ESC/ in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy organised a public consultation on the Draft Children Act on 6th March 2012, which attracted broad public interest. It was attended by more than 100 people, including representatives of the Bulgarian government, Bulgarian Parliament and local authorities, social partners and representatives of over twenty-five NGOs, parents, scientists, experts and others.

Within the general context of the forthcoming Rio + 20 UN conference on sustainable development in June 2012, the objective of the Group III event was twofold. Secondly, to exchange views on best practices among existing civil society projects promoting the green economy. The conference also provided the opportunity to raise the visibility of the EESC opinions and work of the Committee at large, on the topic of sustainable development. The conference brought together approximately 180 participants, including Group III members and wider civil society representatives.
