European Consumer Day 2018: The Digital Economy: What Deal for Consumers?

On 20 March the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) together with the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council will host its 20th European Consumer Day. The event will take place in Sofia this year.

As consumers are becoming increasingly digital and as we advance towards the age of post-mass consumption and the Internet of Things, new questions as to how much personal data is worth or how big data affects the choices we make arise. These issues will be debated by speakers from the tech world, consumers, influencers and policy shapers and makers. Other important aspects of the digital economy such as the trends driving digital consumption, and consumer attitudes towards digitalisation in different parts of the EU will be discussed in the conference as well.

Every year since 1999, the EESC has organized European Consumer Day, aiming to provide a forum where representatives of EU institutions, national governments and civil society organisations can exchange views on various issues related to consumer affairs.
