V Ázii udržiava EHSV vzťahy s organizáciami občianskej spoločnosti v Číne, Japonsku, Singapure a Južnej Kórei.

Prebiehajú rokovania za okrúhlym stolom s občianskou spoločnosťou Číny, ktoré začali v roku 2007 po 9. summite EÚ – Čína a konajú sa raz ročne.

Monitorovací výbor EÚ – Japonsko bol zriadený vo februári 2009 s cieľom monitorovať rozmer občianskej spoločnosti vo vzťahoch medzi EÚ a Japonskom a podporovať spoluprácu medzi EHSV a podnikateľskými, zamestnaneckými, environmentálnymi a spotrebiteľskými organizáciami a ďalšími významnými organizáciami občianskej spoločnosti v Japonsku. Domáca poradná skupina EÚ – Japonsko bola zriadená v rámci dohody o hospodárskom partnerstve medzi EÚ a Japonskom. Na základe kapitoly o obchode a udržateľnom rozvoji tejto dohody získala občianska spoločnosť monitorovaciu a poradnú úlohu.

EÚ uzavrela dohody o voľnom obchode s týmito ázijskými krajinami: Južná Kórea (2011), Japonsko (2019), Singapur (2019) a Vietnam (2020). Tieto dohody obsahujú kapitoly o obchode a trvalo udržateľnom rozvoji a dávajú EHSV a ostatným organizáciám občianskej spoločnosti, ako aj organizáciám občianskej spoločnosti v partnerských krajinách, formálnu úlohu pri monitorovaní ich vykonávania a poskytovaní poradenstva príslušným politickým orgánom v oblasti environmentálnych, sociálnych a pracovných noriem a iných záležitostí, ktoré majú priamy význam pre občiansku spoločnosť, a to prostredníctvom domácich poradných skupín. Každoročne sa konajú dve až tri schôdze domácich poradných skupín EÚ a spoločná schôdza sa koná raz ročne.

EHSV zároveň spolupracuje s občianskou spoločnosťou v iných ázijských krajinách a na príslušných medzinárodných podujatiach na ad hoc základe.

    The 2030 Agenda, the new global framework for sustainable development agreed by the UN in 2015, needs to be reflected in EU's development policy, the major orientations of which are set out in the 2005 European Consensus on Development ("the Consensus").

    To this end, the Commission issued Communication COM(2016) 740, "Proposal for a New European Consensus on Development: Our World, Our Dignity, Our Future" in November 2016.  Interinstitutional negotiations are expected to result in its endorsement in the form of a Joint Statement by the Council, the European Parliament and the Commission, in May 2017.

    The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) warns against granting China market economy status (MES) and  calls on the European institutions to promote fair international competition and actively defend European jobs and European values with efficient trade defence instruments (TDIs). In its opinion, adopted at its 514th plenary session on 14th July, the EESC points to the disastrous impact a possible granting of MES to China would have on Europe's industry and consequently on Europe's labour market. The EESC insists on China's fulfilment of the five EU criteria for achieving the MES.
