Greater accountability and transparency needed on external nuclear cooperation

The European Commission should put forward an international convention for the nuclear assistance provided to emerging countries, said the European Economic and Social Committee in its opinion on nuclear safety cooperation, adopted today at its plenary session.

The convention would set out criteria and conditions related to nuclear safety assistance that EU Member States provide to emerging countries, said the Committee. It should be proposed by the European Commission and should bind EU countries capable of providing such assistance.
