The road from Rio: EESC's policy debrief at the European Policy Centre on 13 July

How to judge the outcome of 'Rio+20', the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development?

After the mixed reactions on the expectations and results of  the Rio conference, the European Policy Centre, in cooperation with the European Economic and Social Committee launches a Policy Dialogue to analyse "The road from Rio: non-state actors as drivers of sustainable development?  "

What was the role of civil society and business in these discussions and how can they contribute to sustainable development? How can the EU and non-state actors together advance sustainable development and green growth after the Rio+20 meeting?

These issues will be debated by Staffan Nilsson, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, Lena Perenius, Executive Director of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), Bernd Nilles, Secretary General of CIDSE, the international alliance of Catholic development agencies, and Hans Stielstra, Deputy Head of Unit for Multilateral Environmental agreements, processes and trade issues, in DG Environment in the European Commission. The discussion will be chaired by Josef Janning, EPC Director of Studies.
