The Finnish EESC Members and the Vice-President Darmanin went local to SuomiAreena event in Pori!

The Finnish EESC Members with the Vice-President Anna Maria Darmanin took part in the SuomiAreena event in Pori Finland 19 and 20 July. The Committee shared an information spot with the European Commission and the CoR. On the podium, the Members presented the Committee and Vice-President Darmanin was interviewed on the theme of "Europe of young people". The EESC delegation also took part in the EU programme on the podium, which was ment to illustrate the EU decision making process, and met the Finnish minister, Ms Krista Kiuru, in charge of communication during the reception the minister organised at the Pori City Hall.

This annual event is organised since 2006 by the media and the Finnish government in order to maintain policy and societal debate also during the summer period. Around 100 debates with 500 spekears were programmed. In addition to the Members of the Finnish government, members of the national Parliament and Finnish MEPs, the main organisations of the employers and employees as well as many NGOs were present. Among the national and international invitees, among other persons, the Commissioner Olli Rehn, the winner of the Nobel peace prize Tawakkul Karman and the Libyan activist Farida Allaghi were invited. The commercial TV channel MTV3, one of the main organisers, was broadcasting daily from the event.
