Exciting Partnerships on The Road from Rio - European Policy Centre and EESC joint event

The European Policy Centre (EPC) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) jointly held a policy dialogue entitled “The Road from Rio” discussing the role of non-state organizations as key drivers of sustainable development. What came forth was a general feeling that the Rio+20 conference may not have been able to concretely address all important sustainability goals, but it none-the-less offered an excellent opportunity for discussions involving a wide range of stakeholders from across organized civil society and industry. The panelists converged on the increasing importance of this type of interaction and issued a joint call for more exciting partnerships with the support of governments in order to maintain the momentum of the Rio+20 dialogue process.

The panel was moderated by Josef Janning of the EPC and included contributions from Staffan Nilsson, President of the EESC; Lena Perenius, Executive Director of CEFIC; Bernd Nilles, Secretary General of CIDSE; and Hans Stielstra, of the European Commission’s DG Environment.
