Current position

  • President of the EESC Employers' Group since 24 October 2006
  • Director and advisor to the Presidency of the French Assembly of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACFCI); advisor to the president on European matters
  • Vice-president and founding member of the European Association of SMEs, SME Union in the European Parliament
  • Lecturer on European affairs at the IEP, the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg , the University of Wroclaw in Poland and the ISMAPP

European activities

  • Information campaigns on the Single Market (1987), the Euro (2000-2001), Enlargement (2002-2003), and the Constitutional Treaty (2004-2005)
  • President of the European Economic and Social Committee's SOC Section (Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship) (2004-2006), and of its ECO Section (Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion) (2002-2004), member of the EESC Bureau and Co-President of the EU-Bulgaria Joint Committee
  • Creation (1987) and launch of the European Network of Euro Information Centres (in 2003 there were almost 300 Euro Info Centres across the whole of Europe , including the EU Member States and associated countries)
  • Conception and launch of the JEV financial instrument for the SME partnership in Europe (120 million Ecus over the 3 year period from 1998-2000)
  • Creation of the French Permanent Delegates Circle (CDPF) (1995) bringing together 140 organisations represented in Brussels ; President until 2003 and currently Honorary Member;
  • Responsibility for the EESC's activities with candidate countries in connection with the Convention on the Future of Europe (2001-2003)
  • Creation of the Masters/DESS course on "European public policies" at the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg (1993)
  • Design of "know how transfer" programmes for Eastern Europe in the fields of support for the private sector (SMEs) and civil society;
  • Creation of the French Chambers of Commerce and Industry Delegation to the European Union (1979)
  • Member of the Administrative Council of the European Studies Centre at the ENA in Strasbourg ;
  • Member of the Steering Committee of the Jean Monnet Association
